hi i just google for a keyword and i didn't see any sponsor links at all, so i went to adwords and bid on that keyword and i got first price for $0.15 and another price for $0.30 (for another keyword) once again neither of keywords showing up in google sponsor links section, it's all empty, not even one sponsor, yet price is rather high... why is that?
oh, sorry forgot to add, within 1 hour, i've got over 1000 impressions and about 30 clicks, so my ads do appear...
You'll be wanting to read up about how Google sets the minimum bids... http://adwords.google.com/support/b...882&query=minimum+bids&topic=&type=f&onClick= Basically, Google doesn't look at your competitors when deciding how much you have to bid. It's determined by the Quality Score: http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=49174 which is calculated (primarily) using your clickthrough rate (unless it's a new campaign or keyword), your advert text relevance (to the search term) and the landing page quality: http://adwords.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=46675 The landing page quality is determined based on: Relevance (to the search term) Originality (unique content) Transparency (contact us, privacy policy, about us) Navigability (easy to find what you're looking for). So in summary, you want a relevant advert (with the keyword in them, so arrange your adgroups accordingly), a compelling advert (that people will click on, improving your clickthrough rate), and a relevant, trustworthy-looking website.
there is a ggod chance that you got so many impressions so quickly because you did not turn off "content network" Personally I feel you should turn off "content network" because you tend to get a lot of untargeted clicks that never convert
Sometimes true, although I manage a number of accounts where the content network delivers cheaper leads/sales than search. That said, it's not a bad idea to focus on the Search Network at first, if you're not very experienced with Adwords.
"Personally I feel you should turn off "content network" because you tend to get a lot of untargeted clicks that never convert" That's why I got my Content Network switched off. It also brings a lot of unnecessary impressions, which pull down your CTR.
Geez, turning off the content network is like telling the bank, "no thanks, I don't want any more money, I"m good thanks..." I'm not sure where you learned that, but it's baloney my friend. The clicks are targeted and they do convert. I have several campaigns running ONLY on the content network and they're doing quite well.
The high price is attributed to though Googles states that they will charge a minimum of .10 on a listing that they actually alterate in an effort to charge more assuming that you'll pay the slightly elevated price due to the fact it is still cheaper than other keywords in that category for instance. http://www.greatdiamondsforless.com
You must be talking about "placement targeting"... that's a different story! For example: I promote Charter cable via adwords, If I leave content network "on" my site will show up on websites that target Charters, airplane charters, Boat Charters Charter of rights, fishing charters AT&T cable, Time Warner Cable Rogers cable cabling companies and the list goes on and on......... How targeted do you think those clicks are gonna be? If I had a dollar for every post that I have read about some poor Guy running up a huge adwords bill overnight because he accumulated 10,000 impressions and 500 clicks at a Buck a piece and didn't mak a single sale. Lets face it, there are a lot of begginers in this business and on this forum, I'm just trying to save then some expensive lessons
You're both right - sometimes. It depends entirely on your campaign - some things work on the Content Network, and others don't. But the only way to tell is to try it...
