Infractions and Private Messages

    Hello,

I joined this forum to find some links for sale. Because I am a new member, I cannot create a new thread to make a specific WTB thread unless I have 20 posts or something. Also, I cannot send a private message unless I have XX amount of posts.

Now what is a strange twist of rules, I am getting infractions for posting a response in a thread for the author of the thread to send me a private message about their link details.

Why am I getting an infraction for this? Because of your settings I cannot send a private message or create a thread. I am not trying to hijack a thread, but am legitimately looking for their link information. I am not telepathic so I cannot send my thoughts to their brain. How do you suggest I communicate with a user and not get an infraction when I cannot send private messages?

    Thanks...

This is something you should take up with the staff member that issued the infraction. Regular members cannot do anything about this.

You need to wait till you meet the requirements. Posts like, "PM details." are not allowed. They are pointless. If you really want to do business here then I suggest just waiting till you meet the requirements or putting meaning into your posts.

You can send PMs just fine. Anything that is relevant only to the original poster should always be in PM.

Edit: WTF are you talking about? I show you've send 13 PMs. Why are you saying you can't?

Sure, sending a PM works when they send me one first from what I have found out. I would love to send a PM directly to the thread author but I have to wait for them to send me a message first... Thus leaving a PM me post in the thread. While it may clutter the forums some, it's what I can do to increase my post count so I can start a thread, while still trying to get the work done that I need to do. I understand letting people post new threads with 0 post count would lead to massive amounts of spam, but not much else on this forum interests me to post, sorry.

Did you get a PM with the infraction? If so, whoever that PM came from is who gave you the infraction. Unless DP uses a specific member to send all infractions, which I don't know about.

You will not receive a PM about your infraction(s). You will receive an email about your infraction(s) if you enable that feature in your control panel.

You sure about that? Not trying to argue or be stubborn, only curious.

11,500 posts and 6 years of membership. Yes, I'm sure about that.

You do not get a PM, just an email. I promise.

The system is designed so that new users cannot participate in the BST section, they got to make a contribution to the forum first, since most of the DP services are for free.
Now the dumb part is that they deliberately make you break the rules to issue you infraction points to frustrate you, to give the site a bad reputation to drive people away, to eliminate spam in their opinion. :)

Excellent point, I could not have said it better. The BST section is the only reason I am here... sadly the rest of the forum seems like spam to me ;)

Funnily enough, that's how the BST section seems to me (spam). :p In fact, the only section I like a lot is Suggestions & Feedback. Sometimes funny, but also very good ideas come up at times.

Sorry, got confused with WF.. Here you can PM, but there is an incremental delay between sending messages, so when someone is looking to communicate quickly on the BST area, they will have to wait a LONG time to be able to PM again, or they can make a post in the thread asking for a PM instead of waiting however many hours to send a PM again.

I prefer to send the person a email or talk on a instant messenger. Thats a faster way of not using the PM system on this forum.

Good point. You can talk in real time, and also gives you a permanent record of the transaction details in one place if you do it via IM. Just a much handier way to work.

If you do it on skype you can talk, IM, share screen if needed, etc.

If that information isn't visible publicly (and usually isn't), you gotta start with a PM (or a post in the thread if your PM timer is making you wait ;) ... Also, EVERYTHING on skype is logged, same with most IM programs, and the internet for that matter lol

I guess the issue has been disclosed. Topic about infractions is not allowed to brought up: [Infraction] Infractions - Please Read. And as for the enabling PM feature, we have to wait till the system enabled it in our account. DP is like other webmaster forums, aims for quality posts. And those who tried to accumulate the required post to send PM and post in a spammy / low quality posts, more likely that member get infraction or get ban.

What??? Let me guess, you're trying to make as many posts as you can, even on this PR0 thread, to promote your profile signature:

    "Restaurant Philippines
Find businesses, products and services in the Philippines using this online concierge directory"

But wait... the profiles aren't being crawled by the big G because you have to be logged in to view them.

    .... Or not =b

Edit: Now I see that the thread will be a PR0 with your signature showing. Got it.
