Im just wondering what people think about this.

Do you think a MOD who applies an infraction should make sure to do a little research by reading the thread to determine why the person they are applying the infraction to has performed the 'bad' action?

Or should they just look for a bad post and not try to understand why that post was made basically applying infractions blindly?

The latter. :) You can't really expect someone to understand everything, cross reference every previous post and then expect them to know what the poster was thinking too.

So the MOD shouldnt talk to the user to try to gain an understanding before applying an infraction ???

WOW that seems kinda harsh Shawn.

All im doing is trying to gain an understanding behind how it is acceptable to apply an infraction without looking into the situation at hand first.

Weather is reading the actual thread or talking to the user.

Sorry for yet ANOTHER infraction thread I just wanted to see the logic here thats all.

    Right... just my opinion though. I'm certainly not going to sit down and have a fireside chat with someone so I can get a better insight to their psyche before I give them an infraction, but other mods can do that if they have the desire/time. {shrug}

Kindergarden? You think im whining? Simply because Im asking a question and wondering why people shouldnt need to look into a situation to gain an understanding of it before applying the infraction...

Posting to this thread in the manner you have definitely depicts your maturity level.

Alrighty then. I guess I got my answer.

The logic is - follow the rules. If you get an undeserved infraction, then odds are, thats the only one you ahve and it doesnt hurt you anyway. If you have a bunch, then they probably arent undersreved.

Do you think the mods have time to conduct an investigation? Gimmie a break.

I said I wanted my crayons didnt I?

Right... a single false positive infraction isn't going to affect anything. If a user gets a ton of infractions (enough to where it affects them... like a banning), I would bet money they deserved most of them.

I think if RULES are not put around how the mods can apply an infraction then the system CAN and WILL be abused but hey forget that I said anything.

Hey I agree with you 100% that they would deserve most of them if it gets to the point of effecting them but i dont think this should discount the fact that they shouldnt be applied blindly.

I have yet to see or hear of one that was applied blindly (the moderator just picking a random person/post and picking a random infraction).

Mods shouldn't be mods if they don't have enough time to conduct their responsibilities properly. (takes a few seconds extra to read a few posts back from the "problem" post.)

If someone is trying to argue with another and that person says something back and a mod see's it, and has to give out an infraction, shouldn't it at least be applied to both users?

I feel a little reading is required, as Guru stated already, they could at least read a few posts back to be sure.
