I received an infraction for putting this thread in Content Creation. The infraction states that it should be in the Cheap Stuff category. My thread is buying/selling forum posts. The Content Creation forum is exactly where that goes, and the forum is littered with people buying and selling forum posts, articles, etc. The majority of those (yes, I have evidence) are listed under $5. The "Cheap Stuff" category, on the other hand, is a schmorgesborg of any products, the vast majority of them being free. I'd like if somebody could explain the reasoning behind this. I do think Content Creation is the right place for what I was advertising, but clearly somebody else does not. I understand that "Cheap Stuff" is for anything under $5, and yes, technically speaking, there is stuff listed under $5 on my site. The problem here is, again, Content Creation is littered with offers under $5, and yes, I know infractions were not given for them given the mere number of <$5 offer threads that exist there. I reviewed threads from yesterday. I took the first 10 threads that I saw mentioning a price, and 8 of 10 were less than $5. Why was I singled out? If you cannot enforce a rule uniformly, then the rule should not exist.
Any time a member offers a smorgisboard of offerings and a single offering is for five dollars or less, thread belongs in cheap stuff. Typically rates for forum posting services are so low such threads belong in cheap stuff rather than content creation.
I understand, but how can 75% + of the threads in Content Creation with a value be listed under $5, yet they are allowed to remain there but mine is not? I suppose it's just like the speed limit. The majority of drivers speed but only a few get caught. The difference here is that it's extremely easy to give an infraction for any thread under $5 that is posted outside of Cheap Stuff...but it's not as easy to give all speeders a ticket
It would be nice to catch everyone and never have a thread that violates our guidelines online. With the volume of posts we receive that is not possible. Sooner or later everyone gets caught. If you see someone violating the posting guidelines, use the bad post report and alert us.
Fair enough, although if your current staff cannot handle the load, then clearly you need more. There definitely would not be a shortage of people out there interested in a moderating job here.
They can handle it but due to the amount of people posting in various sections which all need moderating it can sometimes be stressful, especially when people say they always see wrong threads but never report them. Instead they use the excuse "But I see others threads being allowed, which breaks the same rule" simply report it and you'll find the thread will be removed almost instantly
Not sure if these are done instantly and to every report on one subforum. My feeling is 1 out of 5 report is moved(at least that's what I'm experiencing with the posts I reported).
That's because they are all over the place. Yesterday I went through the first 2 pages of threads in the Content Creation forum and reported probably 15-20 threads for being in the wrong section. Clearly that rule is either enforced sporadically or DP is way understaffed. If such a high percentage of violations get by your staff, then something is wrong. It is not the community's responsibility to enforce rules...They are merely facilitators.
Dp mods clearly don't know what is happening on this forum. There is a rule not to say pm sent and i see them all the time and one out of ten get infracted. There is a even a rule that you can not ask questions in the thread but 99/100 threads have questions in them. Its just your bad luck if you get infracted.
Yeah...They have a lot of rules in place that they are way understaffed to actually enforce. Oh well, I guess it's like shooting fish in a barrel. Knowing that even if you break a rule, if it's one of the ones that isn't so obvious, odds are, you will not get caught here...Not much incentive for people to follow the rules, thus, the problem multiples...and that's where we are today.
Agreed! Maybe newbies are taken into consideration as I see most of them with "PM sent and check PM" in threads are having below 200 posts.
Does it feel good to be on the receiving end of something bad, knowing you can't do anything about it for once Ryan?
