Infraction Clarification

A while back I received a 5 point Spam Infraction. This came out of nowhere and the thread/post now is labeled as "private". So I can not go back and see what it is that I did. I have read most of the Q&A sections on it and now I'm really confused.

If it is the post that I refered someone to look at a site, this site was not mine. It was to OpenSite.Org. The forums rules state:

"Don't spam the forum with things like:

Affiliate links (they are allowed in signatures though)

Nothing but a link to your own site (you can request a site review within the Website Reviews forum). "

But if I use the "Website Reviews forum" to ask for clarification or directions to the rules, the forum warns us not to. For the quality of the forum's content, I feel this should be clarified.

I try very hard not to refer anyone to my site, but feel that refering them to Google, DMOZ, OpenSite, etc. should be acceptable.

If someone asks the question "Where can I get a list of SEO methods?"

I feel that an answer " Check out www.open-site.org/xyz/zya..." is a good answer to his question.

If the fourm want to set a minimum character count on the answer, fine. But we need to know this.

Now, with this said, where can I see the Post in question? And is this Infraction open to review?

    Thank you,

You started a thread with a post that has nothing of value, but a link. Had you referred to an outside source because someone asked for something specific, you would have been fine. However, we do not, and will not, spend the time verifying the poster's ownership of or affiliation with a specific site. If the link is the bulk of your post content, it's treated as link spam as it's simply littering the forum. If you want to include a link, do it in response to someone and always include a detailed description of what people can expect to find if they choose to follow it. You shouldn't be starting threads for the sole purpose of linking away from the forum unless you're asking for people to review your site (in the appropriate area).

And do not post about infractions. Contact a moderator privately when you have questions.
