I decided to try Chitika on 10 pages of my 130+ page information-based website. I'm approaching 2000 page views on those 10 Chitika ad pages and I have yet to register a single click. The ads on all those pages are placed above the fold and I'm using the 300 x 250 format. My next move is to try Chitika ads on all my pages at the bottom (not willing to give up any prime 'heat map' real estate already used by my Adsense ads) and if that doesn't work then I'm pulling Chitika altogether. If there's anybody out there using Chitika ads successfully on an information-based (as opposed to a product-based web site), I'd sure appreciate any pointers especially concerning which ad format works best. Thanks.
well what type of information are you talking about? if your site's about mortgages lets say and you're displaying ads about cellphones you can expect clickthrough to be nil (Since accidental ones are near impossible now)
Thanks for the responses. First of all, the ice has been officially broken as yesterday I registered my first click (not that this is grand improvement but it's something). And secondly, my site provides tutorials on HTML and CSS and I have ads targetted to various web editors like Dreamweaver, AdobeGoLive and whatnot. I spent a day browsing Amazon and Shopping.com gleaning a bunch of web editors they feature. I thought ads like this would do reasonably well since they provide an alternative to learning about web page source code to create a website. But I guess I thought wrong. I see that some of you actually put a lot of effort into 'selling the ad' to the visitor. Is this the only method that works? (i.e., placing your own little blurb about the product right beside the ad?) Also, is this within the Chitika ToS?
You can pretty much be at liberty to suggest the customer buy in any way except by say "click the ad" or "Support this site by clicking the ads" or somesuch. You are the lead generator for the advertiser. It is up to them to close, but you do the hard footwork in the initial stage. Frome the TOS you cannot "intentionally post misleading information with regard to the Paid Listings or directly or indirectly encourage or require users to access the Paid Listings or to otherwise generate click-throughs through any means which could be interpreted as coercive, misleading, malicious or otherwise fraudulent." ie. no BS to trick them into clicking. No Lies!
