INFO - What is future

I have yet to see any .INFO site coming in google's first 10 search. What is the future of .INFO domains. The few one word have been sold in XXXXX. Other then that their is no hot news on these domains. I see lot of people buying and selling .INFO domains on DP, wonder where are they using these domains. I believe .INFO come at third place after .COM and .NET.

Do you know any top ranking .INFO sites. Please list here.

    Thx

Google doesnt give any weightage to the the tlds (atleast that is what I understand from matt cutts remarks about .gov and .org domains) so no need to worry about that. Yes, probably it is the third most popular extension, for commercial sites. They still dont get a premium in domain market, but I guess it is slowly improving. I had a genuine enquiry for one of my parked .info domains recently. If you have some good info domains, hold on to them :)

It doesn't matter about what TLD you own, all of them are treated equally in terms of SEO. I've many times seen .info & many other extentions on the 1st page of Google.

Exactly, though from user perspective dot com still rule because they are easy to remember. Apart from that, I don’t think there are any other disadvantages of owning a dot info domain.

It depend on the domain name, if it's short and memorable like seo.info, you can expect good price.

You can't go wrong using .info for a site or domain that is offering subjects in information like geography, medical, travel etc.

I register lots of .info for myself since i get it cheap from my registrar www.resellerclub.com

I have lots of them in the first page of the result in google. For some reason msn doesnot love me... :) , some in yahoo but google doesnot have any partiality as far as the tld is considered.

If you have good content and enough backlinks, you can easily dominate search engine.

Thanks to everyone for giving comments.

I understand it is ok to hold .INFO domains. I was in impression that .INFO domains are only for informative purpose. Good to know they can be used for commercial purpose and they do figure in Google's magic 10 listing.

Please do list top .INFO sites I would like to see them. This will encourage people like me to hold .INFO domains or develop them into informative sites.

    Once again thanks
    Thx.

Wrong, that place is reserved for dot net, which is considered more valuable than dot info.

They obviously work better for informational sites, rather than commercial sites.

For example I have WWll.info - which could easily be developed into an informational web site about World War 2.

Received an offer of $100 for this recently, but turned it down. Way too low.

Really it depends on what it is to be used for, this is what really matters. Some names lend themselves very well to the extension whilst others do not.

Also have WHSE.info (WhiteHouse or Whose Information?) Offers invited on both of course.

    WWII - Is good name.

In past i red articles about .INFO domains that SEO companies use it for building traffic to main sites. I guess this could be reason that most of the .INFO sites are being used only for trrafic diversion and not actually being developed into major sites.

    Governments seem to like .info's

    ukresilience.info
    itspublicknowledge.info
transportdirect.info is interesting as the they own the .com and the .co.uk and they brand on the .info

These sites are good, first one i was not able to open, I got error in opening page. I thnik .INFO is taking some heat, I do see some one word going for nice price. No harm in holding some good ones.
