Someone told me that google does not like .info domains.. is this true?

Are .info domains gimped in any way with google (or other search engines)?

IF .info is gimped are other domains like .info (like .me)?

Are sub-domains better than .info? Like fish.FruitsLover.com?

Sorry im in a panic now because I happen to own a .info and maybe thats why I havent been updated since July.

Nope. Google is only looking at your content. It does not matter
whether its a blog, lens or sub-domains. Content is king, and
unique contents of long tail keywords will bring you high up in SE.

In terms of SEO, google won't care what domain extension you have.

Your extension doesn't really matter however having .com puts more credibility and authority behind your site.

is this really true? you mean google will discriminate against a link from a site just because it is a .info?

As far as google is concerned, east or west, content is the best. So don't worry about the .info or .com. I am having a .info pet domain and getting good revenue out of it just like that of my .com pet domain. It all depends on your unique content.

If the domain is very strong (High PR, Backlinks), the subdomain will be stronger than a new domain

Domain extensions do not matter when it comes to ranking in google. Google do not like or dislike any particular extension.

A search engine doesn't care - but .info domains have got a bit of a bad reputation. Due to being cheaper they do tend to be associated with - well, people who want cheap websites.

Sad isnt it - I think .info is a great suffix. I think its a much better one for informational sites but I have pretty much let mine slide recently because of the reputation thing.

Actually it's a silly notion that every thought that .info has always been sidelined by Google. In fact, I've never come across official press release or blogs mentioned by google themselves that they do not like .info domains.

I have several .info domains and they are just as strong as my .com
But for branding you can't beat a .com domain - that's obvious.

Although what is said here is true but I have some personal experience that makes me worried about domain extensions and google. I have once invested too much effort and money in a .ms domain and it becamse the number one site in its niche (in terms of visitors and serps). When I studied what I had to do, I found out that if it was .com then it would have advanced much faster. I knew this because I compared every SEO step I took to similar steps for my other sites.

So, I think the domain extension makes a difference.

A few months back all new .info domains were deindexed briefly while Google adjusted their algorithms to weed out thin affiliate sites that blackhatters were adding by the 100's. Some of the sites that got swept up in this dragnet are still deindexed or deeply sandboxed. New .info's do still seem receive a lot of extra algorithmic scrutiny than new .com, .net or .org domains before Google fully trusts them.

However, I do have a some older .infos that do well, meeting or exceeding my $1 a day average goal for niche marketing sites. I wouldn't recommend building a primary, flagship, site using one for several reasons but they'll work fine for search marketing sites if you give them a little extra time to mature.
