.info domains worth their salt?

Just wondering if I should waste my time with .info domains. They are pretty cheap, so it's tempting, but will I be able to get good SE rank with them? I pretty much concentrate mostly on SEO and organic traffic, so I don't want to spend a lot of time developing a .info site if it's not going to do me any good. What are your thoughts/experiences with this?

.info is being associated with spamming and black hat but who says they can't rank for the first results? Google "pr checker", which is a competitive term and sees who's on top.

However, .info is being manipulated by spammers and thus you need more time to persuade search engines to index you high enough. It is possible that your sandbox period will be longer compared to .coms.

It is best just to go for a .com. It doesn't cost too much more, and will probably be worth the investment.
