Yes it still worth it if you plan to use it for information site. If you use for other site then its value is low.
My 2 cents If you can get the same name dot com and dot info, go for the dot com; it has better keyword value. If you can get a better dot info compared to the dot com (keyword phrase, for instance); the dot info is still worth getting. A better name plus doing onsite / offsite SEO with a dot info still works.
I use .info domains because they are cheap, infact Godaddy charges only £1. Not bad if you hate spending money like me. One of the .info domains I have actually ranks higher than .com on a keyword.
They dont look great for reselling or flipping sites as they dont have the value but if your purpose is different then they an ideal cheaper alternative - i think they are more generally accepted these days as people know there are less .com's or .net's with valuable keywords available. Sometimes it is all webmasters can afford especially if they have doubt as to how successful the site will be or just experimenting a new niche before committing big funds Probably better than using like the .biz and .ws domain extentions but it just depends on each site and if the name u want is available in .com........
Guys .info domains has value for domain parking. I got 5 .info domain for 99 cents each and parked these domains. So far I made around $40+ from these domains. I will not renew these domains and when they will expire I will get new ones at cheap rate and again park these. As parking concern why should I spend 8$-9$ on a domain when I can do same thing at 99 cents domain. GCS
I think the content of the site is more important than the extension. A dot com is always my preference, but if I can't get it I'll be happy with a dot info if I can get good keywords.
