the domain extension dont mean anything. Its all in how you use it. I have seen .info and .net domains outrank .org and .gov for competitive search terms.
seo is not related with the domain extension. there is no seo difference between a com domain and an info domain
I personally love .infos. They're cheap, readily available for good keywords and most of my sites enjoy search engine traffic rather than type in.
Here is my 2 cents, although everyone will disagree. 1. In theory, there is no difference. 2. In theory, there is supposed to be no difference with .edu. However, in spite of what Google says, there is an absolute difference and it was widely seen by anyone with eyes looking at results for searches of viagra. (I think Google has cleaned up the Viagra search, but do one for (buy cialis) and you will see .edu spam in the top 10. How anyone still denies that .edu are treated differently is beyond me) 3. Spammers use .info extensively because they are dirt cheap and work great as throwaway names. I think it is fair to expect that Google knows this and will not be manipulated. I would not put a long term project or a site I cared about on a .info. That being said, I own several - but I fully expect them to be treated differently by Google. If not now, then in the future. Because, for the most part they were non commercial sites that had good authority information. Google valued links and information from those pages accordingly. You can do a simple search for virtually any pharmaceutical and see what I am talking about: http://www.google.com/search?q=buy+cialis http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=buy+xanax&btnG=Google+Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=buy+vicodin&btnG=Google+Search in all of these searches you see edu spam in the top 10. At least I do, as of July 3, 2007. This doesn't just end up here, and spammers don't pick on edu for no reason. Google denies it to keep the problem from getting even worse, but the proof is in the pudding. Check for yourself and when you see edu spam in the top 10, ask yourself google is treating edu the same as every other tld.
.ws is a ccTLD for Samoa. Although, there are a few scammers trying to pass .ws off as meaning "WebSite"
I also disagree. search engine will not consider domain extensions. But some time back here at DP i saw a thread where a guy mentioned his .com domains are better in serp when compared to .info domains
Are you sure .edu and .gov get extra points for being authority sites? Since only the Government and Schools can get the domain names? .info's aren't really cheap. They are for the first year, but after that they are more expensive usually that other domains. Most spammers purchase them knowing that they will get banned soon, so they just don't renew them later.
One of the most annoying things indeed is the fact a lot of people assume every site finish with .com So from that point of view your site could suffer.
As everyone else has said, the domain has no real relevance in terms of SEO - the main effect of a .info is most likely in its type-in traffic. I usually go .com, .co.uk (being from the uk), .net then .info I created http://www.nintendowii.info/ a year or so ago (before selling) - and managed to rank it in the top spot for 'Nintendo Wii Info' (its still there... despite there being no real original content, and the new owner doesn't seem to have updated it in close to a year - I guess its feasible in this case that the .info domain actually helped the ranking.. but even if it did, I doubt it would have counted for much.
it doesn't matter one bit try searching google for these and see what comes up on page 1: watergate spain webhosting germany
That i have seen some of the auto generated sites uses .info domain name who are spammers so may be due to this u r having fear of taking this domain but if you work in genuine manner then no worries your site will be good even if it is .info...................
In my experience there is definately some kind of filter on new .infos I have about 70 parked domains. About 60-70% of the .coms are indexed within the first month. Not one .info has been indexed within the same time.
well it really depends on how you use it... i got a info domain i tried an experiment on, it has been with a different owner for the past couple of months now, and although its parked, it never did get indexed. I started installing a site on the domain, and put in some work with it, (wouldnt explain how I did it). but overnight I get it indexed in google. its gplz.info just my .2
