Seems its rare to see a new web directory appear with a .com extension now. 90% of what im seeing are .info, i know the reasons as you all do too, its crazy though. They are bound to get a hard slap by the search engines. Im not knocking any genuine .info's, i see nothing wrong with a choice of domain extension, just when its on the scale that we are all seeing, its insane.
LOL... i am the exact opposite.. i use google / yahoo / msn / bing alot and i am yet to see a .info pop up, i have seen on .biz pop up for a competitors battlefield 3 website. I still am yet to run a .info site as from my searches i can honestly say not 1 .info site has popped up.
People are making directories on .info because they are cheap and most of them don't want to invest a thing in a website. Most of the directories I saw are on .com and .org and in my opinion .org is the most suitable directory extension.
yeah... like 2007 was not bad enough.... .info will highlight this industry (whats left of it) again !!! M.
After a year it cost a lost more than $1 to renew them. I see a large percentage of .info directories that disappear before their 2nd year.
Yes, you are right. Here is an example of the insanity. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1594751 I have been avoiding them, but it is getting ridiculous. As of now, I am no longer adding groups of .info directories to my directory lists.
If I see a .info directory url, I don't even bother to click on the url. ALL .info directories are SHIT. If a directory owner can't spend 10$ on a domain what will he/she run a directory?? .info are a complete junk!
nothing different from before but the unfortunate thing is that these directories are obviously making something (however small) to make it worthwhile to setup in the first place as long as submitters know not to expect them to be there this time next year (and they should know that by now given how many people have set these up in the past)
.info TLDs are cheap, that is why these nutcases are buying the domains in bulk and churning directories like bunnies. Its going to affect serious directory owners. I may be a newbie but I made my directory because I want to really learn about it.
cheap domains for cheap directories. nothing new here. quick buck crew trying to create an empire of poop!
For some reason, I never really "liked" .info extension...and its price being cheap, the first impression that I usually have of a .info domain that that the owner didnt care to invest. Sure it's hard to find tlds with good names but .info doesnt 'sound' right, for directories at least. However, in a post on Wikipedia, here is what is being said "The .info domain has been the most successful of the seven new domain names, with over 5.2 million domain names in the registry as of April 2008. In addition, over 1.6 million .info websites are in active use with unique content"...Only if .infos were better valued by SEs, we would perhaps have a different image of this whole story. And hey discover. Congratulations on your 1000th post
I don't have any .Info or will ever get one, but I see nothing wrong with it as far as extensions go, any type of extensions are fine and I don't think it has any harm as far as SERP's go. Reason I think why they don't show in results is because those Info dirs owners aren't taking care of. As everyone noted that's because it's cheap to register for the year.
The addition of new TLD's was completely retarded IMO. It was done in order to generate revenue, nothing else. If anything, if its not a .com, .net, or .org, its pretty much a waste of money.
Well, I disagree. A supply and demand and the ever expanding of internet user=demand. A new TLD will be announce in the future with a native of a none English speaking nation will be able to have there very own TLD in there very own native writings, ie, Chinese,Russian,Arab etc,. I wont know of what the fuck it is it's saying but good for them. (I guess)
