.info any good for a directory?

    Hi Guys

Just thinking of starting my first regional directory, it seems in my area that most of the good directory names have been taken. However there are a few good names with .info , would you consider having a directory with .info or is it best to stick with .com?

Also what about hyphens? just checking all the addresses I can think of, they are all taken but all of the web addresses are parked and are not being used.

    So I could get: mytown-search.com

I guess if my directory became popular with the address above, most people would be searching for mytownsearch.com and the owner of that address would end up with all my traffic!

Anyone got any opinions about these problems?

Personally I would run with .com .net, others in here will tell you it doesn't matter a long as its promoted in a good manor, but with that in mind I would suggest you search Google under any search term to do with directories and when you find one tell us on what page you found on.

Another option would be to go with your countries.extension

Try and get a .com if you can, theres nothing wrong at all with a .info or any other extension, but given the choice id try and get .com and id probably avoid a hyphen too, the reason being is that ive never yet been unable to find an alternative name that is still decent and relevant.

As traffichype suggests, maybe even go with your country extension, but if you want to not just target your country then maybe a universal domain extension is better, or at least regional, .eu .asia when its finally open to all etc

Most of the time visitors will come from the search engine link or ad on another site, so it does not really matter what kind of TLD you use.

Yes .com is preferred extension if you rely on direct type-ins and promoting your directory as a brand name.

Reliable websites doesn't use hyphens numbers or .info domains.info means you don'T care about your website to pay a few dollars.
