Just read an article in my daily newspaper about an search engine called "Kosmix" which have a good potential of beating the Internet Giant "Google".The News remained a buzz for last few days since the two engineers (maker of Kosmix) who missed the chance of buying Google two times 10 years ago have received a huge funds worth $20 million from media and entertainment conglomerate Time Warner for their search site. I wish they would, but look at it: http://www.kosmix.com Slow, cluttered and the "results" seem to just be a mashup of stuff like Wiki, About, Answers through to Mahalo. I could put together a site like that over a weekend.
no way these guys will beat google a few months ago there were all these news stories about google employs that left to create there own search engine i can't even remember the name of it anymore so much for that.
I don't think so , google and kosmix two different products. sorry guys i dont think they can beat Google or come close to Google
Ive heard many a story about how the next search engine is the 'next big thing' or the 'google killer' etc. CUIL was supposed to do this, they havnt (yet). I dont think google will die quickly, if anyhting they will slowly lose market share to something else over a long period of time. Yet they will always have a significant portion of the search engine pie. Kinda like yahoo!
Yes, another one of these "I/We/He/She can beat Google" articles. These are no longer entertaining and have become downright stupid. You can not beat Google simply with a new search engine or algorithm. You need to understand that Google now is a major company with investments in more areas than the search engine. In order to beat Google at anything, you have to beat or compete with Google at everything. Any partial new offering, without the AdWords, AdSense, etc. component alternatives will eventually fail against Google.
The Chinese have their own search engine called Baidu which is very popular but only in China, French also have their own search engine called Exalead which is only popular in France. Google and Yahoo are international search engines use by people in all countries. If Kosmix wants to beat Google, they will have to spend a lot of money and they must get people all over the world to use it. Can they do it? I don't see that yet.
When this Kosmix buys a fighter jet, you let me know...then I'll start considering them competition for Google.
No way this kosmix can match the big G, whose expertise in the search business is par excellence till this day.
