The Indian judiciary, in a historic verdict, leglized all sorts of consensual sex between adults. The verdict has been recived with joy by the LGBT community in India.
That's good, but homosexuality was illegal in India before this? What did they do? fine them? throw them in jail? While gay rights is not necessarily a big interest for me, I do feel that they deserve to pursue happiness just like everyone else, so I'm glad they changed the laws.
Homosexuality has been illegal in most countries at some point. It was still illegal in some parts of the USA until fairly recently, with Texas being the last state to legalise it in 2003. Here's a pretty full list of laws relating to gay rights across the world (I'm fairly impressed with the year France legalised it). India hasn't been updated on it yet, and says that people who broke the law where liable for a fine or up to 10 years in prison. It hasn't actually been enforced for some time apparently.
Blindly Following western countries in every aspects of life will lead Indians to a painful life and blind future. This is a black spot on Indian culture. Any act against the rule of nature will cause nothing but pain.
bimal32 - what a bunch of nonsense. homosexuality is a part of nature. the law against nature was making homosexuality illegal in the first place.
Its meaning less to show mirror to a blind man. I really regret for posting my thoughts on this thread.
Your thoughts? More like your lack of thought buddy. If you make an ignorant bigoted statement don't expect people not to respond to your BS.
I think these laws linger much longer than they are enforced due to politicians not wanting to touch them in fear of losing votes. At least in the case of the US having laws in some states until recently. Though these days in the US they would attack laws like these (if they existed) to GET votes.
Every state that butts in people's personal lives (here: in their bedrooms..) is more or less a tyrany.
Oh, no! Now consenting gay people will have sex with each other and somehow that will hurt people who are uninvoled in it!
Yeah that's why western countries are living in putrid squalor and.... oh wait, no they aren't, is the non western countries that are. I don't know at what point someone assumes they are entitled to hold an opinion on what another man does with his penis, but the obsession that people, generally the religious, have with other mens genitalia isn't particularly healthy.
I don't know why people can't differentiate between uncommon and unnatural. If something is uncommon, it doesn't make it unnatural. There can be many genetic mutations which make people exhibit uncommon characteristics. e.g. some people may have extra pair of teeth. Does that mean those extra teeth are "unnatural" and should be removed forcefully? There are people who have physical characteristics/organs of both sexes. Should such people be killed because they are "unnatural"? Homosexuality was, is and will always be a natural phenomenon. No religion or law will ever overcome it. Nature always wins finally....stop trying to challenge it.
Really ? This is the biggest social/economic problem facing India ? I don't really think so. You need to be more worried about Pakistan's nukes falling into the wrong hands.
