The Ministry of Corporate Affairs of the Government of India recently announced formal investigations against Google for allegedly committing anti-competition “malpractices.†This was announced in August second week. The Competition Commission of India (CCI), a quasi-Judicial Regulatory arm of the Corporate Affairs ministry of India, has launched a probe against Google after an organization of consumers accused the internet giant of “malpracticesâ€, said India’s Minister of State RPN Singh in the Indian Parliament in the subcontinent’s capital New Delhi, on Monday, August 13. The Consumer Unity and Trust Society International (CUTS) have complained of ‘competition malpractices’ against Google, Singh told the Upper House of the Indian Parliament. The ‘malpractices’ are in contravention of Section-4 of India’s Competition Act of 2002, he said. “CCI has launched a probe against Google following a complaint by consumer advocacy group, CUTS International, against anti-competitive practices adopted by the company. CCI has received information for contravention of section 4 of the Competition Act, 2002 by Google.†For members, here is what Section-4 of India’s Competition Act is all about. The law states that no enterprise must ‘abuse its dominant position…directly or indirectly, imposes unfair or discriminatory condition in purchase or sale of goods or service’. Likewise, the Competition Act states that ‘no enterprise must limit or restrict production of goods or provision of services or market; or indulge in practices that result in denial of market access or use its dominant position in one relevant market to enter into, or protect, other relevant market.’The Ministry of Corporate Affairs of the Government of India has announced formal investigations against internet giant Google for allegedly committing anti-competition “malpractices.†Do excuse my naivety, but I was wondering if a civil consumers' group could come up with reasons loud enough to rattle the Indian government's gate, why couldn't corporates or web users in the US, UK or such come up with any complaints - if there really were any - I mean aren't the US and UK lot a more competitive and High-Web-IQ-marketing lot?
The complainer just getting publicity for more funding. Not much stop from a company to build there own search engine.
