Exactly - there are always Indians bragging about the rich people, but so many poor people live in terrible conditions.

Some of the poorest people in America live in far better conditions than some middle class Indians.

Agree with you. One of the main reason for this is Indian population and illiteracy %.... and Indian politics.

    That's an over exaggerated statement...

The american lifestyle is way different from the Indian lifestyle.

for two terms to be compared, the metrics have to be the same..

In the Mumbai attacks, one commando major named Unnikrishnan was shot through his bullet proof and he died. So i am not sure about the quality of the bullet proof vests.

LOL you forgot Kargill already ??? Retrograde Amnesia ???

Agreed there are many things wrong with my country. But we have a functioning democracy and a good education and judicial system.
The ills that plague India are quite common in developing nations of this size.

The politicians ruling this country are of the yester generation and somewhat out of touch with the general psyche of the people.
But we have come a long way since independence in 1947. The working population of India is quite huge and young and if the
government gives due emphasis on the vocational education system it will do wonders.

New age politicians like Rahul Gandhi, Omar Abdullah, Murli Deora are already making their presence felt in the policy making.

There has been a huge change in lifestyle since the last 30 years or so. The Indian middle class is steadily growing and so is the purchasing power parity.
Indians born in the early and late seventies can attest to the fact that the India we grew up in and the India we are living in today is markedly different.
This is the generation which was passing out from school and entering college or work life when economic liberalisation took place.

Some of us could not cope with the change but many did.

I see a steadily progressing India. The progress will be faster when the geriatric politicians retire or die of old age and our present generation
(born in late 60s to late 70's) runs the country.

Ohh please, Every so called super power has its own share of poor. Even in America poor homeless people are scattered around the country. If you have no income, you are in a living hell. I have seen many fellow proud Americans claiming that poor in USA live better life than those living in third world country. I don't think so..

    Just a few eye openers:

So Peter, next time you feel like claiming that we don't abandon poor, take a look at these pics first...
