Indexing/Search Results

How do I go about getting a site indexed? I have submitted my sites to Google, Yahoo, etc. Is it just a matter of time before I get indexed?

It also seems that something more than just getting indexed is needed to see any significant results. Even if I get indexed, if someone is searching "Scooby DVDs," I am clearly going to show up on page 110 behind the big players like Amazon, Buy.com, movie sites, etc.

Is there a way and, if so, how to get certain pages ranked higher? What do I do to make sure that I show up on page 1, even if it is only for certain Scooby items? Do I find the less competitive products and load those pages on my site full of content. Or does site-wide content work?

Links and more links. Change your Sig from "The Scooby Store" to "Scooby DvDs" or what ever your targeting. Might want to try and be a little more broad also, like "New Release Scobby DVD". It's better to be #1 for something that gets searched 10 times a day,vs. #100 with a thousand searches a day.

    your already indexed http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://www.thescoobystore.com/

if you search "Scooby DVDs" you get 414,000 results so if you wanna be #1 your gonna have to beat all those sites. you need a better Pagerank and more backward links then those sites. Its also better to have quality links then more links. You have to have your link on scoobydoo related websites for it to work. You might wanna make a blog on blogger.com and post some reviews of scoobydoo episodes and link it to your store.

If you look at what your up against with that keyword its very possible to get on the first page.

If my store has 20 categories from DVDs to action figures, does it matter which page the backlink is to? If I want to be #1 in DVDs for example, do my backlinks need to go the DVD page or can they backlinks be to the home page or any page?

Roughly 133 backlinks to beat amazon for 'scooby doo dvds'...update content regularly...blog on the google friendly sites and you have a chance...key is good content...remember it can take some time...possibly a few months...but it'll all be worth it if you get ranked on the first page! good luck!

tried to edit didnt work...no more time for posts 2nite....pm me if you like.

how do you know the number of backlinks? Do I need to go to my DVD page or just to any page on the site?

Slight correction. I just recently found out that the number in the returned results is not for sites but for pages. That is a big difference. Amazon could by itself for axample account for a few hundred ow those results.

But as someone already pointed out, try to target less competitive kewords. You may also try submitting some articles to ezine about scooby doo. I managed to get an article on page 1 of google for a competitive keyword in two days after submitting it! Make sure your article is targeting the keywords you are competeing for

One big tip I can give you and everyone else is to FIRST do niche research before putting up any site.

If I find that it is too hard to compete in a particular niche I move on. There a are still a lot of niches out there that you can compete in and find yourself on page 1 for your keyword phrase. Note that this is what is called long tail keywords.

Use wordtracker(free version) and see how people are searching for scooby doo items. Then focus on the keywords that you think you can compete in.

Put your keyword in google like so : "long tail keyword" the quotes have to be in place! anything with 50,000 or less results I am going after it. Depending on the size of the niche I will adjust that number up or down

I put up an Ebay niche site last week based on this exact strategy and I had a sale and a signup within 3 days.

What is important to realize is that by using this simple strategy you will get much better TARGETED traffic rather than a whole lot of untargeted browsers and passers by.
