I have a new forum site with a few members and some content. When I am checking webmasters tools daily since 4 days ago... it always says No pages from your site are currently included in Google's index. Indexing can take time. Does this mean indexing takes months. I actually found googlebot's IP in my user online list in the forum earlier today.
Give me your URL and I'll link to your forum from one of my moderately ranked sites. That should get it indexed pretty quick.
Care to elaborate on this statement of yours ? Didn't get it. Indexing can take time. Speeding up your process- you need links on regularly spidered sites so that the bots will find your place faster.
He was replying to Fast web and the indexing can take time just type the url of your forum in the google search box if your site is listed then it will be the top results try to build many backlinks and try to make other also do that if your service is good
Add a sitemap, or better yet, a feed (rss) to your site, and add it to Webmaster Tools. You site will be indexed within a couple of days.
Its not easy to get indexed in google as fast you think,it need PR and good backlinks with high PR sites.
Do you have a sitemap? If not, create one, and submit it to Google and Yahoo! This usually gets your site crawled within hours and indexed within a couple of days. For help on this, here's a how-to on sitemaps.
I actually have a SMF Forum with friendly URL's and I am using a sitemap generated by the friendly URL generator. Actualy it is made up of PHP. Now. I am confused. What you mean guys crawling and indexing are 2 different things right. Googlebot may crawl you today and tomorrow but may index you in 2 months. Does that make sense. I will resubmit a sitemap using a XML sitemap generator instead since the PHP sitemap has 5 errors in it. Thanks for all your enlightenment.
what an ROR sitemap BTW? the sitemap generator gave me options, ror.xml and sitemap.xml. What will I choose?
Last question. the sitemap generator found broken links to my site. will it affect the indexing? Here is the message "Broken links foundWhile creating your sitemap, we've found 1 broken links at your site. Please read our article that explains the broken links problem in details. You can find out exact URLs of broken links we found for your domain (healthliberty.org) immediately for a small $5.00 fee (transfer via Paypal): " http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ They have always the same number of broken links always 1
You want to know what the best way to get it indexed by Google is? Submit the site to Google itself. Failing that, a link to your site from another site is a good backup, and a solid complimentary plan as well. As it is though, your site has very little content which means you're not going to be ranking very well at anything. Is the forum the main draw of the Web site, or are you going to have other content for people to access as well? (Oh, and anyone who says it's hard to get indexed by Google is full of beans - it's in Google's best interest to index Web sites, so why would they make it difficult? Getting a good ranking on the other hand can be difficult, and most of that is due to lack of good content, not because Google hates them which it doesn't.)
I'll tell you of my own personal experience. Use Site maps to get your site indexed or else do some link building and link up your site to any high ranked PR site which is indexed in Google and your site will get listed in 2 days(max). This i'm sharing of my own personal experience. Ace Tuku
For information on ROR, you should check out the ROR website You can use either one, but I'd choose sitemap.xml I think it might be better supported at the moment. Broken links are bad from a SEO perspective. You should try to find the broken link, and fix it. If you can't find it manually, there's Link Tiger, and many other free services that do it for you.
indexing for a new site takes a bit time. it also depends how many backlinks you have for your website. Also, use a sitemap for your forums.
