Index'ed on date in SERP's

    Sometimes my pages get indexed with the date showing in the SERP's and sometimes there is no date. This is across all the SE's. Knowing what date your pages are indexed is hella useful.

    Am I missing a doctype statement or meta entry in my HTML?

    I did search these forums and google and didnt come up with anything. ;)

    Switch to the cached version and you will always get a date.

    I'm not sure as to why they show it in the SERPs sometimes and not on other occasions.

    The date displayed in the serps is the "fresh date".

    I am not sure what that date is indicative of though. Today my site has a fresh date of May 24, 2005 but when I click on the "cached" hyperlink, the date on that page shows - as retrieved on May 25, 2005 02:44:25 GMT.

    Typically if it's within 72 hours, it shows... if it's older than that, the date doesn't show.
