I'm not so sure it would affect SEO, but for the look and continuity of a site would you say that index to /main site or index to site name.domain is better? Example, DP has digitalpoint.com the forum is forums.digitalpoint.com. Is the above better than digitalpoint.com/forums? Thanks
These days when Google started taking sub-domains and sub-dirs as same, there should not be any big difference. In general, use subdomains only for different niches or if there are significant difference in contents.
So you are saying that in your opinion, an index (or welcome), page then sub-dir is more acceptable? I'm mainly thinking about the "look" of it all, so I guess using a subdomain should't matter if it doesn't have any impact on SEO.... Thanks for your reply.
After doing a bit of research, I've come to the conclusion that the subdomain may be better. Sub-folders are fine for say; Yoursite.com/index2, but for a site like this (DP), forum.yoursite.com would be better, simply because of the sub-folders that would be contained within the subdomain.... I'd rather have forum.site.com/content than site.com/forum/content... Like mentioned, Google doesn't really have a preference, so I guess it's just down to ease and the URL "look". Thanks for your replies.
Yes you are right. Its depend on your requirement. If you want to create forum, you should create subdomain or if you want to create blog or directory, you should create subfolder.
