Index time for large site

Hi all

Does anyone know how long it normally takes for Google to index a large website? I have about 17,000 pages at the moment yet only about 150 have been indexed, the site has been live for 2 months.

For a new website it will likely take a while to get all those pages indexed. It might help to upload a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools. Having plenty of quality backlinks may also help speed up the process.

You may also want to do the webmaster tools at google for your sitemap and to get a general idea of whats going on with your site.

That's a big site for me i hope i could recommend a quick way for you, but the concept is the same get more backlinks from bigger websites

 

yes, those two above said all that matters. Get your sitemap ready, use webmaster tools to submit them to google and then concentrate on good link building.

 

You need to have backlink for your pages, else all your pages will never be indexed.

 

There is no hard and fast rule but Google treats every page individually so it just depends on ur internal linking structure that how long it will take to index a large website....moreover u can reinforce the process by placing ur inner links in frequently updated places like social bookmarking sites

Ok, something does not add up here.

Your site is 2 months old and you have already posted 17,000 pages? How is this even possible? Are you using an RSS posting bot? Is this a blog or a forum?

Did you buy one of those article databases that have been resold to hundreds (maybe thousands) of other people?

I'am wondering if you dont have 17,000 pages of duplicate content? Because if you did, chances are google will never index those pages. Or google might index the pages, see them as duplicates and then delist them.

To answer your question, when you make a post, google should know about within 24 hours.

Every 2 weeks or so google should do a deep crawl of your site for anything that it missed.

If your site is 2 months old, has 17,000 articles and only a few have been indexed, there are other factors at play.

 

The pages are dynamically generated using a database, each page has unique content and will be expanded to over 50,000 pages soon with the upload of some more data.

 

Does site internal links help in getting all the pages indexed quickly?

 

+1.. This is what I typically do and it works well.

 

Usually.. It takes me about 1 MINUTE for google to index my site and new pages..
sometimes even in seconds..

 

Wow, if your site ever gets PR, won't it be really diluted by the number of pages? Just wondering.
