Hi, Index status in Google Webmasters Tools showing 46 indexed pages but 3500 (Not Selected). I wonder how come? Site has actually 50 pages. Please help..
Not selected: URLs from your site that redirect to other pages or URLs whose contents are substantially similar to other pages. You can read more here: http://www.seroundtable.com/google-index-status-advanced-15479.html
My index status not selected is going off the chart. First time I ever looked at it was last week. There are 40,000 additional not selected urls every week. How could this even be possible? I do remember doing a huge .htaccess redirect around the same time as the problem occurred. The redirect was to clean up of thousands of 404 not found errors from a previous installation directory. I succeeded in redirecting all of the 404's to their proper location but in doing so it would have looked like there was duplicate content. I have since removed the mass redirect and now I am waiting for the 404 errors to return and hopefully my index status will return to normal. But seriously how can it keep going up by 40,000 urls per week? That doesn't make any sense. The site can't be creating 40,000 new duplicate urls every week can it?
Since that last image I posted the not selected URL's are STILL rising but the total indexed URL's have gone up a little too so now I'm just passing it off as normal for lack of any other explanation. Maybe it's just something to do with forum posts being viewable on so many different URL's.
