I am not sure if this is the correct category. I thought since its related to site administration, I have submitted my post here. Background: If I type www.domain.com, the server will show index.html (as it is defined to be default page). If I type www.domain.com/index.html, I still get index.html (because I asking it to give it to me). The question is : Is there a way that I can limit this url to be www.domain.com. Essentially, I want www.domain.com/index.html to be directed to www.domain.com always, as I do not want my home page to be counted as duplicate content.
make sure all the links on your site point to www.domain.com/ and not www.domain.com/index.html. Also, you may want to take it a step further and redirect domain.com to www.domain.com
Thanks for the info, but in case if a competitor just to get rid of me, decided to refer to index.html from some of his references, I would loose my ranking because of duplicate content, so I don't know how to deal with this scenario...
you wont lose ranking because of duplicate content in this type of scenario. One of the pages would be ignored by the SE if it thought that there was duplicate content. It really isn't a big issue, don't waste your time worrying about it.
