Hi, once in awhile i do the "site:example.com" search to see how many pages on my site google has in their search database and one month after my launch i had around 50.000 pages in there, sometime it drops i notice and i have like 45000 for a couple of days then it goes back up, but now i only have 533 pages and it has been like that for a couple of weeks, i wonder why the amount drop so much and didnt increase when googlebot has been to 10.000 of new pages.

Did you get your site verified via Google Webmaster Tools yet? If no, I would recommend you do it first. You can see most of your site informations in Google perspective, including your indexed pages and any crawling error that might occured.

I would also recommend you checking on these ones first

    1. Is your sitemap.xml correct?
    2. Is there anything wrong on your .htaccess file
    3. Have you done some change on site structure lately? ie. URL rewrite
    4. Is there any 403/404 error on your pages and you did not notice about it?

Something like this happened to my site also. I think it'll be alright. Just create a new sitemap, sumbit it and wait for a month or 2-3 weeks :)

I think it is the result of changes in their algorithm. Somewhere I read then Google have modified their searching algo..

They must be trying to improve the index like Bing. Google indexes withtin seconds whereas Bing takes a week to index just a one page!

It happens to my websites too from time to time. May be Google drops old pages that not visited.

Your backlinks were probably devalued, or your pages as well.
