Increasing users via email and RSS

    It depends on the type of contest and of course quality of the blog.

    Bad Idea. I dont think people who care about prize read blogs. Blog readers are quality reader, who seek information. If you are planning to give prizes, advertise your blog in Chatting portal, entertainment websites, movie websites, communities (Orkut, MySpace etc)

    If you're holding a contest where the participant need to subscribe
    - you must have a very very attractive prize
    - make the contest run for about a month
    - serve your best content through out the contest period. The chances are subscribers will read one or two, and if you manage to get their attention, you got yourself some new permanent readers.

    The third point is where people always make mistake. They got the number but they failed to keep it.

    Holding contests and giving away prizes is not the guarantee to inflate your subscriber count. In the long run, the only thing that matters is high quality content on your blog.
