I use #1 (fresh content) and #3 (newsletter) regularly. The two together are pretty powerful! The content gives you a reason to send out newsletters, which draw more folks to the content, which draws more subscriptions to the newsletter, and so on. It's a cycle that can be self reinforcing if you keep at it and don't lose momentum.
My favorite free form of advertising is article marketing, I update my blog on a regular basis when I write articles, and my newsletter automatically sends my subscribers with articles and tips.
