Just a tip that many times is underrated or over looked because it used to be expensive and time-consuming: Translating your website/adding languages can almost immediately increase traffic as well as conversion rates in most cases. Even Neil Patel shared a case study where he doubled his traffic just by adding languages. Today it's getting easier and easier with tools like https://www.bablic.com or SmartLing.com or PhraseApp.com Would love to know if anyone has some numbers/stats on how adding languages helped their marketing efforts.
I like the fact that English is the only language used on DP. Depends on a site of course, but on something like a forum or classifieds adding / allowing other languages can mean only one thing: more spam. I believe the language(s) on a site should be country specific. For instance: English / French for Canadian sites or English / Spanish for the US sites, etc.
I have never personally translated a website before. Except of course using PoEdit for certain strings. I wonder if this will cause support questions to be asked in other languages that I can't understand.
I have just recently translated website for a client to Chinese (from English) and here are the issues and stats: 1. The first issue is that translation must be done by a professional or a native. Websites which translate use word by word translation and although they are extremely better at what they used to do, still a long way to go to humanize translations. 2. You need to have a solid plan before starting to translate and once done all the material needs to be uploaded together so the new visitors are not left hanging for half English and half another language. 3. Stats show definitely increase in visitors, but of course not 50%, it shows about 10 to 12% increase. Demographics are almost the same no changes in age r gender but language shows now about 12% more Chinese are visiting the website. 4. My objective was not to increase traffic though. Remember to have an objective for translation and mere traffic does not mean anything. If they are not the people you are looking for then useless.
I think its important to find out if it's worth it to make the translation time wise. Furthermore the quality of the translation has to be 100% perfect. Also the niche and kind of website you have will have to be weighed before making the translation.
