increasing serps through purchased sites / domains?

if i bought a site (site A) that had a significant pr and decent ranking for certain search terms and had to redirect it to another site (site B) i own (transferring all content as well), would it pass pr and also give the same rankings as the old site.

hope the question is not too complicated. just that i got an option to buy a related site which is getting decent rankings but wondering if it's worth considering buying it and redirecting it to my main site so as to consolidate the ranking position for my main site.

I'm not sure you will get/keep the same rankings, but if you permanantly redirect that url to your site, you will eventually inherit that sites link popularity (and PR would pass as well) which could be helpful if the site has built a solid foundation. Just make sure it's solid though, and that he didn't use crap techniques to get where it is.

Why not move Site B your existing site to the purchased Site A that way you keep the listings and you can do a 301 from site B

    or keep both.

Why not keep site A as is, (place ads on it so you make money) and link to your other sites via text link to pass PR?

I find this avery effective and efficient way to pass PR while earning long term profit and allowing the purchased site to keep PR. You get more mileage out of the purchased site this way as you can link to more than one site to pass PR to.

Why not use the purchased site for the value you mention while building the Site B as well. If there is specific content on Site B that could move to Site A, great. Otherwise, take advantage of all the resources instead of sacrificing either one. IMHO.

This is a very interesting thread and perfect because I am in the same situation. My Site A is a PR5 with a subdomain/store that is also PR5 (just launched in May:D ). I have Site B that has very little content and has not been SEO'ed at all. It's a PR4 with a very desirable and useful domain name. I'm trying to figure out how to get the most value of the PR4 site driving traffic to Site A (or site A's store). Site A and B are hosted on different servers.

My thought was to create a "storefront" of sorts on Site B with all Buy links going to the subdomain at Site A. Site A's store is performing well, but I think I'm suffering a bit from the Google Same Site penalty. Also, Site A's store is managed off site, so it's not SEO'ed as well as it can be. Not complaining since it's a PR5 from nowhere.

Any suggestions or examples of Site B's that will stir up the creative juices? Any ideas or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.
    Chris

You wont be able to transfer the site authorothy, just the value of the links pointing to that domain.

the thing is that both site A and site B are ranking well for different search terms...i know i could leave things as it is ...but in the long run, with B being a much better domain and more 'brandable', don't u think it'd be better if i did do a 301 redirect to site B..but of course, i don't want to lose out on temporary rankings either.....anyone with any experience of actually having experimented with doing so?
