Part of my main site contains articles and columns. I've been experimenting with different layouts to increase CTR but am still under 1%. Can anyone point to a site getting good CTR on pages with articles? Thanks.
It's not about placement. It's about matching the intentions of your visitors with the ads content. I have several sites... many many in fact that use the exact same template. They use the exact same placement and colors. One site will pull 5+ % and another 2%? Why? Because when I look at the visitors to the first site and examine the keywords they use and the pages they visit I realize they are looking for something very specific. That happens to be in the ads. And Ka Ching. Click through. So like most people you are blind to what matters.... it's not about you... it's about giving people what they want.
Google Adsense sent me an email the other day telling me my ad units were underperforming and suggesting that I upgrade all my 468x60 banners 728x90 leaderboards. The suggested placement was right below my blogs header. Take it from the horse's mouth that is the best location and banner size to get clicks.
