Increasing Alexa Ranking without black hat tricks

Update on this...

The article has the detail, but my 3 month average ranking on Alexa has risen from 755,698 to 572,953. Not dramatic improvment, but significant since my overall traffic numbers haven't changed much. Also, starting today, it's on the first page of results over at google.co.uk when you search for "increase alexa rank", so I suspect it will keep moving.

Reminder: Yes, I know that Alexa rank doesn't matter. No need to remind me

 

alexa will count any number of page views as a single view per day from a particular ip.
so dont think it would help much setting a site as homepage.

 

1)IF you have a wireless router at home or office, or go to Starbuck there are always tons of wireless networks hanging around, switch around 3-4 networks and hit your pages once a day with each unique IP address that you get. Takes about 3-5 min and done. Now you created some traffic didn't you? Now your Alexa ranks will drop 25% to 40% in couple of weeks.

2) Also place a Alexa widget on your blog or website. This always helps to decreased rankings.

3) Start a mini contest with some stupid prize and post it on social bookmarking sites once a month. You get tons of traffic flowing in. Alexa feels happy.

 

Since starting this about a month ago, my three month average went from 755,698 to 457,529.

So, seems to prove out the theory pretty well. My overall traffic numbers are actually lower, so just driving a different type of audience made the difference.

By putting the Alexa toolbar on my site I have found that my rankings improved significantly.

 

Just buy a bulk of traffic. It helps to monetize your traffic and increases your Alexa Rank.

Into the 300k range, with the 3 month average at 371,176. Not bad since the starting point was 755,698.

Unfortunately Alexa often matters to investors when your site is being considered for purchase or even Angel investors

 

Into the 100k range now, the rank is sitting at 171,989. This is likely where it stops until I drive more traffic though. Expect it to stay in the 150k-250k range.
