Almost everyone has seen some sort of breadcrumb navigation on complex sites, but it's purpose is much more than just increasing user accessibility. Breadcrumb navigation allows spiders to determine your site's structure more effectively, therefore increasing your site's search engine friendliness. Although I recommend "nofollowing" breadcrumb links, you can create keyword rich anchor text throughout your site that is at the very top of each page. Of course we know that spiders favor content and links that are closer to the top of the page. Breadcrumbs are simple to add to most major CMS platform via plugins.
