Almost all the website owners have a common question, “How to increase website traffic or website ranking”. Let’s see how we can increase our website traffic without search engine optimization. If you have a good traffic, your website ranking will be improved.

Facebook(a great platform to increase website traffic):
    1. For wordpress site, install Jetpack plugin and for Facebook profile and page, enable auto update option
    2. Get a FB widget on your site’s sidebar
    3. Find out at least 20 popular groups related to your service and business and join them
    4. To gain trust, you should contribute to those groups and related pages
    5. Once you have gained trust, start creating docs or contents and sharing on those groups. Don’t forget to get a backlink or credit towards your website
    6. Share your links and others’ contents too
    7. You should write long and quality contents for groups or pages. These Facebook contents rank well on Google today.
Facebook can be placed as second option after

Pinterest Marketing Strategies(helpful for both website traffic and website ranking):

    1. At first, create a good looking business page for your website on Pinterest and add your website’s URL there.
    2. Don’t use your business logo, cartoons or other things as profile picture. Use your image
    3. Your pin boards should be based on your keywords
    4. You can use ninjapinner.com to make automated following. After you created a board, it will automatically look for related boards to follow them and their followers.
    5. Pingraphy.com is another site which helps you schedule your pins. You can schedule your pins once a day or week
    6. If you have a wordpress site, you should use “CB-Pinterest-Image-Pinner” WordPress Plugin. When you upload any image to your site, this plugin creates a pin button on each image and your visitors have option to pin that image
    7. In case of finding out popular pins related to your keyword, use Repinly.com. Then, keep repining those on your own boards and make comments in order to drive traffic to your website or Money page
    8. Adding rich pin codes on your site is another important part.
    9. Pinwords.com creates pinnable image from text or quotes. You can use it.
    10. Keywords should be in title and image description

    Tumblr Marketing Strategies:
    1. Create a Tumblr page based on your business or site name
    2. Create posts on image and video
    3. Before you publish any post, add tags
    4. You will find lots of free Tumblr themes. Use them
    5. You should find other related blogs and make comments
    6. Share other blogs, reblogs and funny stuffs.
    7. Create links to your other social pages. Such as, Facebook, twitter
    8. Get a backlink to your business page from each post you create

    Google+ Marketing Strategies:
    1. If you have Wordpress site, install Jetpack plugin and enable G+ auto sharing option
    2. Get G+ authorship for your site
    3. You should find industry based people every day and follow some of them. I suggest following 20 people every day.
    4. Some people share their own links only. Don’t do this. Share others’ links too
    5. While sharing links or any updates, use hash tags
    6. Find out related contents and comment there. You can use hash tags while searching
    7. + a good amount of contents per day
    8. G+ hangout is also important. You should arrange one in every month
    9. High quality and GIF images are allowed by G+. Use them
    10. You should have a business page and try to increase followers as many as you can

SEO (search engine optimization) is a long time process for website ranking. Of course, quality and unique contents mean a lot now-a-days. In case you want to receive good amount website traffic, you can apply these steps. I also discussed some other techniques on another thread. Facebook doesnt work for anything anymore. They reduced post virality with edge rank in order to push people to pay for advertisement. Now, if your page is decent, has no spam, fake accounts, any issues, your posts get to only 5% of your subscribers. If it gets good virality (likes, comments, shares), it goes up to 20% ish. If you post links, virality is even lower. if you directly upload photos, it is slightly higher. Using 2-3 in 1000 rule of conversion, you need 1,000,000 solid subscribers in order to get to ~5000-7000 people with each of your posts, and what you will end up converting to sales or any other action would be 4-5 from that traffic. not to mention you cannot go more than 3-4 posts a day, because your posts would be shown even less due to facebook's spam prevention and post filtering.

Not worth at all to bother.

Pinterest is also going the same route - virality of posts reduced a lot. Before various major pinterest figures with ~100-200k followers could reach around ~400 direct repins with every pin. now they are lucky if they go to 40 direct repins.

Google+ doesnt do ANYTHING. it doesnt even push up search ranking with +1s because so few use g+ that they are not incorporating it as a signal. actually, social shares does not seem to affect google traffic ranking much - i didnt see any better search visibility for any post that was shared tens of thousands of times.

Overall, social media is not good at all for any conversions either - social media users prefer to see things in their feed, click to zoom a picture or a summary, and then just zoom out. the incentive to click to get out of the social network is as low as always. leave aside conversion.

even a youtube video with 50 million views did not affect the sales of a company which hit it big with that video.

In the end, social media seems to be good for increasing awareness of whatever you are doing - the shop, site, service - brand recognition. But i wouldnt expect much aside from that.

I have a few sites where most of the traffic comes from social media. I think it depends on your niche and the type of content you share. Pinterest has been a major traffic source across all my sites, though Facebook is a lot harder than it used to be.

I tying the most important things for people to take into their social marketing are:
    Avoid fake accounts.
Be active and don't take on more than you can handle - its better to have one active account then several that are hardly updated.
Don't just push your own links. Share other peoples content too. Comment on other posts and be social!

Note that how the only problem is not getting the traffic. What the traffic does, its characteristics are also important.

I have a few hobby sites which receive considerable traffic from social media too. At times, to the order of 5000 a day when something hits it big.

And yet the traffic is easy come easy go. They stay a few seconds on the site, and just move on to whatever's next in their feed. It does not accumulate, add up, trickle to increase traffic or site usage over the long run.

Then maybe you need to look at the type of content you are sharing and the ux on your site. Social marketing is something you have to keep working at, but I don't find any difference in the engagement... Except with StumbleUpon. That has a very a bounce rate.
