SEO is the best approach as if it's done correctly it's long term. Advertising will drive visitors short term, but it will only become long term if the content has enough quality to then begin to spread by word of mouth from the new visitors you've attracted. Facebook virals are a cheeky but effective & free way of advertising.
I think it all boils down to doubling one's effort in terms of SEO. If you are consuming 2 hours a day for it, then probably increasing visitors means also increasing the time you spend in front of the computer.
If you have enough funds for advertising, try social media advertising, PPC, and site advertising to related websites.
now a little bit of php and with couple lines i can create 10k unique visitors from different sites so if you have 5 lines from different sites that one give you 10k you'll get 10k x5 = 50k tht's what i do all the time with my sites Specially with my .edu domains Cheers EaSy7

Keep adding valuable content to your site. I get over 10,000 uniques a month to one of my sites all wth SEO. I have never used ppc. learn how to add quality content on a consistent basis and you will get your traffic.
