Build links to your site SLOWLY and naturally..through blog comments, social media, social bookmarking, forums, article marketing. Vary your anchor text so it looks natural. Focus on promoting your content through social media so it naturally attracts links. Try out a few methods for a month and see what works for you, then focus on the methods that work the best so you can get better leverage.
Create good content and keep it producing on a regular basis. It would bring people to listen to what you are saying. Increase your social circle and encourage other people to read and link to your blog.
Quality content + Quality Backlinks These two things are very important to get traffic from search engines, and I care about only search engine traffics.
Ninjamtit1 pretty much covered all traffic methods. I'll just add you try each one and see what works for you. If you have great content you will natural get traffic as people will promote your site. I'm in the same boat really as i just started a blog which documents my 90 day challenge..I'm not doing a hard core promoting as just started with my very first post.
