i think that any backlink is considered by search engines. granted, a niche-relevant aged-domain high-pr backlink gets weighted more, but every backlink counts. i'll go on a limb here and say that, no-follow backlinks also get some weight in search engines. they just don't pass linkjuice. but a link is still, a link.
