    I noticed a competitor including a coupon code in his Adwords ad. Is this within Adwords terms? I would think this is a violation as it allows users to snag a coupon code without clicking through which hurts Google.

    yes that is allowed.

    It is also allowed to post a phone number... which completely bypasses the google click..
