If they were to sit a test they would get the answer right. But in practice they seem to forget. it's apparent, At least where i live, That the people who reproduce the most are those 1) out of work 2) below average intelligence and 3) more often that not producing multiple offspring to a variety of fathers, None of whom are in gainful employment, contribute to the upbringing of the children or contribute anything generally. This kind of reproduction need to be reduced. For the sake of the offspring themselves and for the sake of society as a whole. We aren't talking about retarded people. Anyone legally able to give consent to a mobile phone company, a bank or a sexual partner is able to give consent for participation in the program. It's for the courts to decide who is legally able to give consent and who is able to enter into a contractual agreement, Not me.
I'm not sure if this has come up on this thread yet but I was laughing with my dad about this thread and he said they've already tried to do this sometime in the 60's. They were giving a couple hundred bucks. "Of course it made perfect sense, but people freaked out about it"
Now you are talking about at least half of the people that frequent this forum section. By the way, your idea is not original. Hitler had a similar idea when he first came to power. But... that doesn't necessarily make it a bad idea. @webwork, your dad is right. I think a few politicians did float an idea like that. There have also been programs to try to get welfare mamas on the pill, but it is always more profitable for them to keep churning out kids.
So you was indeed only being derogatory before when you said: "Intelligent people tend to understand that having sex makes babies" It makes me wonder as why you are keen to promote this program as ‘good’ & at the same time make derogatory comments about the people this program could “benefitâ€, Yet when challenged about these comments or the same comments in the context of arguments for this program you change the story, or the meaning of what you have previously stated. Offspring that do not exist cannot benefit, that argument is illogical. Society can benefit (although we are unsure as to what benefit yet, just not all of society) but society can also be irreparably damaged by it too. Would you sacrifice anything for society, anything? So this lot of “idiots†can be as thick as you want them to be to promote the benefits of your program, but they seem to be remarkably clever once they need to be, suddenly they know sex produces babies & everything the program entails to make informed choice. I see you gave up on the idea that opposing this program stifles “free choice†rant.
Go rent the movie Idiocracy. It's a light comedy with a basic premise that intelligent people begin choosing not to reproduce due to overpopulation and so in a few hundred years there are only idiots left. Me personally, I have witnessed a genius being born from two of the most moronic people I have met. I married her
It doesn't matter if i was being derogatory. Intelligent people seem to understand the consequences of their actions in a far more profound way than those of lower intelligence, sorry if this blatant fact hurts their feelings, but that's just tough. I would and i do. I sacrifice my time and money on a regular basis. I have sacrificed my car because it causes unnecessary pollution. There are countless sacrifices i have personally made that in no way benefit me but do benefit others. it's quite sad really that you assume people would be unwilling to make personal sacrifices for the greater good, it says a lot about you. There is no link between being eligible for the program and being legally allowed to enter into a contractual agreement. You don't need to be "remarkably clever" to be capable of legally entering into a contractual agreement. Why would i go on about it? I made the point once and you failed to refute it. It would be unfair of me to rub your face in that defeat ad nauseum. See, some people can debate without continuously repeating themselves and Some people can debate without intentionally misrepresenting what people are saying... I guess what i am saying is some are intellectually honest, and others are deceitful cowards.
