Inbound links vs. Number of Pages on site

I am in the process of adding products to my site. Sounds easy enough but I woke up in a cold sweat wondering what the effect this will have on my seo plan. I have 5600 pages on my site and wonder if google looks at your site as far as how many pages it has and the more pages you have the larger you are, thus the more links you should theoretically have voting for you? Right or Wrong.
I am concerned that the more pages I add the more inbound links I should have or does it (hopefully) not matter how big you are in terms of pages. Is there a relationship between size and popularity?
Those of you with dirty minds need not answer!

The relationship between number of links and number of pages doesn't matter to the basic search engine algorithms. What you'll see by adding more pages is that some of your lower level pages may not rank if you don't have enough PR to spread around your site. However, your home page and pages directly linked from the home page shouldn't be affected.

One caution is that you shouldn't add a lot of pages at once if your site is small. If you only have 500 pages and all of the sudden you add 5000 more you could trigger a manual review from google. So add them slowly.
