Hey guys I'm working on trying to build links back to my website but something strange is going on. I have a Guns N Roses fan website, so I'm trading links with other Guns N Roses sites, when I do a link query with google or yahoo I don't see any of the Guns N Roses sites that I've traded links with.

I checked to see if their links pages have been crawled since they've traded links with me and they definitely have. I like to see whos linking to me but I don't understand why the "link: " query isn't displaying any of my most valuable links.

    Thanks For The Time
    -James

I'm not too familiar with the area of backlink updates with Google but they may not have updated their backlinks or they may not be displaying them yet. Check Google's cache of these pages to make sure your link is on it otherwise your backlink will be visible to Google the next time Google crawls the page and you'll see it in the cache. Also, Google doesn't display all of the backlinks that they have.

I have found it helpful to set up a Google alert using the link: command in the query like, link:www.yoursite.com. You have to create/sign-in to your Google account and click on Google Alerts then enter the query, choose Web, As-it-happens or whatever. I find it makes it easier because then you can see the new backlinks as they are added instead of trying to scan the whole list of results for new ones.
