Okay, I've seen enough people walk in here spreading misinformation about inbound links doing so and so. Here's one thing that inbound links will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever do: affect you negatively. I repeat: Inbound links will not affect your SERPs (or PR) negatively!. To reiterate: Google will not penalize you for any inbound links. They cannot. They do not. They will not. Think about it rationally, if this were the case, I would just submit all of my competitors websites to a porn directory, and boom!, there I go: top of the SERPs. Unfortunately for me (and my masterful plan), this will not work. Stop telling people it works this way! It doesn't - you may not get any benefit from a particular link, but that's on an entirely different playing field to getting penalized for it!
I have been saying this for years, the same thing applies to Building inbound links too quickly People keep saying that if you build links too quickly you will get penalized, That's Bull Sh** That would mean that I could auto submit my competitors URL to thousands of directories, social networks, etc and get them banned.... Pleeeease!
Yes, sounds logical, if you think about this topic that way, there is no other answer to this question! It would be too easy to be true to become the number one at google for example!
I agree, and from what I see even poor quality links help with serps if you have enough of them. Linking out to poor quality sites is another matter.
May be discounted but you are right - negative affect? Highly unlikely. I mean how can you be severely penalized for something thats not in your control. I bet tons of bad neighbor links come into microsoft or even Google itself.
The days where poor quality inbound links were useful are long over. Blog commenting/spamming? Directory submission? That's very five years ago!
You are right, they will not penalize you for any inbound links coming to your site; they will just ignore them. Search Engines will focus on the amount of niche related inbound links you have coming to your site and use that in their algorithm to set serps. --Thanks!
