I am curous. I have used Adsense, I have used affiliates, I have hosted sites, designed site, consulted on sites. I have tried paid surveys.

What has been most successful for you?

It depends what type of operation your running. I'd say affiliates have the greatest potential on review-type websites - there is not much competition although depending on the product your reviewing you either need specialist access to certain things, or a modest budget to begin with.

Designing websites has been making me a lot of money recently - Ive had big clients paying £70+ an hour, so I cant really knock it.

I've tried hosting. What a disaster that was...

Adsense is also doing well for me recently, 1-2% CTR with $1+ clicks on a high traffic site is proving quite the money maker. but hardly £70 an hour.

I think it's generally good to diversify. Relying only on adsense and affiliates is a risky business, especially if you rely on the traffic from search engines. Designing, consulting - that sort of thing - are a bit more stable, and also look better on any resume.

I don't think there is a "best way to make money online"

It depends on what you like to do and what type of business are you into.

Maybe a proxy web site? It has some problems but it is probably the easiest way to make some money online.

I mean sustainable and able to help a bad fiscal situation - maybe at one point be a kind of real income to help the family. You see, I haven't made anything that is stable off the internet - I come here and see people making significant amounts of money - but i don't know exactly where to start.

    get a job.
Seriously: making money online is dependent on so many things outside your control, that it's really not for people who need a regular check monthly. If you already have online skills, like design, writing, promotional skills - and you have time to spare - do start something online that fits your interests.

Actually - the above is the same stuff people told me when I started, and yet I'm making a (small) living online now. But I did have 6 months of money to test the waters, and a roof over my head I didn't have to pay for. Shoemoney has a wife who makes real dough. It takes time to experiment, find out what you're good at - whether you're a business person at all - etc.
Being a business person isn't for the fainthearted. It takes perseverance, willingness to experiment, a sense for what works, a sense for what content people will be interested in, how to market etc. And also the guts to say: I can't do X very well, I'll invest into hiring someone to do that for me.

The advantage to making money online is that the barrier of entry is so low. It takes absolutely no effort at all to try and fail online. To succeed, and make real sustainable money, that's business - work. & risk.

Good luck. If the above is enough to make you not try - this isn't for you. If the above doesn't stop you, you may succeed. Or it may be you lack self-knowledge.

Of course you don't. And the answer is pretty simple: TRY. There's good advice on here, there's good advice on blogs and all that stuff. The only way to change things is to do them. And it may well be that this isn't your thing. I mean, if you don't have a vision for your site, you should really just not have one - or at least, don't expect to make money off it.

Most people believe you will make alot of money fast online. I think you will make more money per hour working at a 9 to 5 job when you start. It takes time to earn good money online and i would say it takes more hours than any 9 to 5 job. It also takes some luck to earn Big money like everyone dreams about.

Same goes for any business. Most people look at buisness owner and say they make so much more money then me. They work 3 times longer and risk all thier money to build that buisness.

The best way to learn is to visit the "services" here at DP and look for those who gaurantee ROI. People like Trypp and Mystical to name a few. My cost $100 or so but you'll make it back plus get knowledge. You can learn alot in a little time.( It's how I made $500 this month) I just started myself. You can leave a little green if this help.

All the above the but the best is the one you are good at. As some people are good with CPA, some hosting, some consulting... paid surveys will make u a dollar or two but you wont make a fortune. Personally I like to diversify, but excel and concentrate on what i do well. As i never want to concentrate on once source so heavily if it goes away or dipps I am hurting for money.

I sold my site, so my only source of online income is content writing (for the same site). Once the baby is born, I may start up something else though.

CPA = Cost Per Action. You get paid any time someone buys a product, signs up for a newsletter, enters their e-mail, whatever. The action is defined by the advertiser.

I would say doing something you enjoy. Get traffic, traffic=money.
