FYI, to follow up on my post above, I installed wp-ban on wp 3.0.1 and it seems to work. I did read that it might cause problems when I update wp, so if I remember, I'll disable it before I upgrade wordpress next time. I've also learned that inserting individual ip addresses doesn't have much overall effect. Oh well, at least it works. :)

if you have the latest wordpress installed, just go to settings/discussion and look for Comment Blacklist, put their email or IP and it will block it, no need for third party apps
    good luck

Thanks for this! There was a pesky spammer flooding my site. I went with the .htaccess option, so i won't have to see those comments anymore. It takes a little more time figuring out, but it's rewards are instant, and absolute.

.htaccess will work not only for WP , that's why it's unique :)

Yeah latest version of WordPress and you just go to the discussion area in your settings and then put in your comment blacklist.

I was specifically have comment spam from this ip 141.105.65.151 and after some research found a whole family of ip's that are in that category.

I added all these to my comment blacklist and now I get barely any comment spam! But if you want if you want to totally ban an ip adding to .htaccess file is your best bet!
