I gt this about one of my sites...

"Regarding placing images near ads, we ask that you exercise caution when
placing images near the Google ads on your site, as AdSense publishers may
not rely on deceptive implementation methods to generate clicks.
Specifically, we ask that publishers not place misleading images near
Google ads or use images that appear to be directly associated with the
advertisers and their offerings. The use of such images may confuse users
or draw undue attention to the ads and result in unintentional clicks."

I guess it depends on how it makes the ads look...I had a 2px border! And it was placed exactly like yours. SO You might want to put a bit more space between them. Or I think a 1 line in between the images and ad would be better.

It is definitely NOT OK. Do not use images period (borders or no borders).

I got an email from the Adsense Team telling me to remove all images from my ad blocks...and this was even with the use of a border separating the images from the ads.

I was fortunate that they gave me 3 days to remove the images, but I just want it to be known that it is not acceptable. Just because other sites you have seen have done it does not mean that Adsense deems it acceptable.

Sooner or later, they will come across your site and send you an email to take the images down (that is if you're lucky and they don't yank your account all together).

Do the right thing. Don't deceive your visitors with thumbnail images that make the visitor think the ad is related to the image. Just post your ad text in a way that draws the viewer in and allows them to read the ad to decide whether to click on it or not.

ditto. I had some images that were far away from the ads and there was a thick black line as a divider... and nope, didn't pass the review and had to remove them
