    Hi all,

I'm in the market for a new PC.

Would you point me in the direction of some reliable product reviews?

What would you recommend, I'm pretty clueless now.

I need to use the Internet, my email, FTP, and have a few other small programs open all day... no complicated needs here...

    Thanks!

Core 2 Duo seem to be nice options at the moment, but maybe a bit above your needs

It all depends on how much you want to spend. I never buy expensive PC’s because it just isn’t worth the money you spend.

It doesn't sound like you need the latest and greatest PC, as something much less would still get the job done. I would get a AMD 64-Bit CPU Machine with at least 1GB RAM, coupled with a flat panel.

I've never gone down the AMD road so I cannot comment.

However, 1GB of RAM should be a minimum, and I imagine you'd like a decent sized hard drive (do you use it for media?).

    I would shoot for at least a p4 2.8ghz, 1GB of RAM.

The Dell Outlet has them from around $400 with free shipping (dell.com/outlet). Always good deals :)

Looks like Dell has the best price compared to other big brands.
1GB RAM, P4 2.8GHz, the size of hard disk depends on what you need, last time I checked the $ for desktop HD are quite cheap. You might want to get @ least 120+ GB hd

I'd get a dell E1705. I've got one, so far, it's been reliable and fast, and all i have is a core duo 1.83. Get a Core 2 duo tho :)

Is it easy to upgrade Dell's with generic components?
