In terms of SEO..

    Ok so I have two domains, one is let's say keywordblog.com and the other is not-keyword.com/blog/

    BTW those are just examples, I don't actually own them lol.

    I want to target the keywordblog phrase so would it benefit me if in terms of SEO if I did a 301 redirect from keywordblog.com to not-keyword.com/blog/ the not-keyword.com/blog is a bit shorter thus I'd rather keep it as the standard domain or would it be better to just use keywordblog.com even if not-keyword had already been established.

    Yes, stick with the established domain and 301 the keyword name...dont expect much extra seo value from the new name but it can still be convenient and look good.
