Hi, I'm currently developing a network of web sites to sell real estate in Costa Rica. I own some very good domains with major search keywords on them. The idea is to use the best 3 domains with the highest number of searches to develop the "main" web sites, and use the rest of the domains to create "secondary" web sites, to be used as link exchange sites and traffic generators for the main sites. I have selected two of the "main" domains, but have not yet decided for the 3rd one, as I have two possible candidates, and would like to hear opinions about which one of them would be better. The 3rd main domain will be used to target the keyword "costa rica property" and they are: costa rica property . net and costa rican property . com (with no spaces, of course) I believe each one of them has its pros and its cons. I mostly develop my web sites using .com domains, but in this case, the .com domain with the exact key phrase (costaricaproperty.com) is not mine. The .net domains are also good for SEO, but..... The second domain is a .com, but uses the word "costa rican" instead of "costa rica", and most searches are made using "costa rica"... not "costa rican"... and therefore, I'm afraid that using this domain might represent a disadvantage for search engine positioning. So... if it was you decision... which domain would you use as "main" and which as "secondary"... and why? Thank you for your comments.
There is no difference, as far as I know, in using .net vs .com. However, if you are planning to resell the domain in the future, .com would hold more value. If the domain is well established with income, then .net and .com would make less of a difference. If you are not planning to sell, get the one closest to your keyword.
Hi breadnbutter, Thank you for your reply. I do feel strong differences between using a .com or a .net in terms of SEO. In my personal experience, it's always been easier to position a .com than a .net... if it has the right keywords on it. In this case... the doubt I have is considering that one is a .com... and I see it as a better option for SEO... but it doesn't have the exact keyword on it... versus the .net, which I believe is weaker for SEO... but in this case, having the exact keyword on it... I do plan to keep the domain and the web site for a long term business development... More opinions please?
I would get away with .net version. I do not think they are much different between each other but .net has an important keyword in it. P.S. I would recommend you not post a targeting domain in public unless you have them registered already. It could be someone saw it and grab it before you.
I would use the .org if you could get it but the .net will be fine. Look and see if the .com is in the top 10 on Google. If not you can easily take a position in the top 10 with a little effort.
I would say both should be fine, it really is about one-way links to the site and having rich content on the site. I personally like to go with .com's just because that was the standard and what people are use to. just an opinion.....
Yes. The .net has the exact keywords... and this makes it my favorite too... and yes... I do own the domains... otherwise I wouldn't mention them on public. Well... I also own the .org (costa rica property dot org), but I have always believed that the .net was better for SEO than the .org... or maybe I'm wrong... The .com is not developed.... and maybe it won't be developed anytime soon, as the current owner is asking $76.000 for it... and that is a lot of money, but the market of real estate in Costa Rica moves a lot of money, and big companies are developing new projects every day.... so, there is always a chance that some day, a company with enough money buys it, and develops it... as then... I could loose traffic from my main site... if I develop on the .net. Yes... I know .com's are the standard... and that is part of why I'm having a hard time making this decision. Thank you for your opinion. Anyone else?
In theory, the .com and .net domains are not different. But in user experience, they prefer the .com domain. And of course, when we mention a website, we often forget the extension (.com or .net), but we usually use the .com => it can take your visitors to your competitor. My suggest it that don't try to take 1 domain name. Try some others which you can think about.
have you consider with .info?? in my experience .info has a great result in SEO with the right technique on SEO...
