I have heard of this great search feature that is very new to the internet. It is called google, only the best and the brightest use it but you might want to try it out.

What do you want to download them into? Into text files or to an email client?

Outlook won't delete any emails it downloads unless you have it set to do that. On the other hand, any email program will delete messages if that is the way you have it configured.

A perusal of the Outlook help files should help you figure out how to configure it properly.
