This is something I was planning for a long time, I just never had the time to do it. In light of our AdSense account being incorrectly terminated for a few days, building an in-house advertising system was moved up on the priority list. A summary of some of the features... Banner Ads - These are in the same locations that we currently have AdSense ads... at the top of any page, sometimes within the post that a user is reading, and sometimes under the post the user is reading. Pricing for banner ads is CPM (cost per 1,000 impressions) based based on a bidding system. Inline Keyword Based Ads - You can bid on keywords that will scan posts for those keywords and make it a clickable link. If a user clicks the link they will be taken to the site that bid on the keyword. There NEVER will display more than 1 ad link within a post. Pricing for inline keyword ads is CPC (cost per click) based on a bidding system. Email Based Ads - If you wish to get your ad added to a normal outgoing email (they are only added to emails that were going to be sent anyway, we will not send extra emails for you), you can bid on the ad slot. There is never more than 1 (small) ad added to the end of an outgoing email. Spend Limiting - You can limit how much you are willing to spend each day on a per ad and/or per account basis. Full Reporting - You see every impression (for banner ads) and every click in realtime as well as the true actual cost of each individual impression/click. Smart Bidding - Regardless of what your maximum bid is, you are never charged more than $0.01 higher than the next lowest bidder. Choose Areas - You have the ability to only put your ads in certain forums or sub-domains (for example you might want to run a "Web Hosting" as only within the Web Hosting forum. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/advertising.php I'm sure there are going to be a lot of questions, so have at it.
Do you have plans to implement alternative payment methods other then paypal like Googlecheckout, Moneybookers, Alertpay?
Maybe someday, but not a high priority right now since you don't actually need a PayPal account, just a credit card.
Yea thats my problem, I need to get ahold of my bank 1 of these days and get myself a new card with new Numbers since mine is blocked from sending payments through any gateway that uses Paypal to process CC, by Paypal themselves. long story how that happend I use 2checkout now maybe take a look at them they are a third party Gateway they do their own manual fraud checks on payments you receive and, you can use them to accept Paypal and credit card payments. They accept payments via Credit card from all country's throught their own gateway.
Not currently, no... But I built the framework so I can add that in later. Everything is calculated/done in realtime, so I want to see what kind fo stress the current system puts on the DB servers before I make it even more complex for the DB servers.
Thanks for asking that I knew I had another question I wanted to ask Shawn but I couldn't think of it.
As I've been planning for the country filter in the future, I *may* do it by continent instead of country... North America, Europe, etc... While it's nice to have every individual country, it adds some complexity for the user when they have to sift through hundreds of countries, and I'm not sure that much granularity is worth it yet.
Continent would be the best way to go in my opinion. . I see your advertisement at the top, you should but a description in there. Offtopic: How was it having the models at your house?
That's not one of the ads in the system btw.... those are just fillers for places that can't display AdSense ads (login page, registration page, etc.) That being said, it's fine.
Oh, I believe I seen it at the top of this page when I took the screenshot idk. But anyway I am going to hit up my bank in the morning and ask for a replacement card with new numbers for I can test out to see what kind of response I get from the advertising on here. btw I love your house!
You probably were in the Adult section of Buy/Sell/Trade... that whole forum doesn't show AdSense ads because of potential issues. You're a stalker.
Haha, I don't believe I have actually ever been in the section rofl.... I would stalk you in real life jk but repeated a flight(s) from Grand Rapids, Michigan to San Diego, California would cost 2 much..
I setup an in-line ad based on the keyword "advertising", so you can see the ad inserted into the first post of this thread (and you will probably see it in this post since I had the keyword in this post). Yes, the ads are no-follow. For banner ads, an example looks like this:
Apart from reading this thread, I would have never know about the addon, I understand its a new system, so don't forget to make it more visible, top right within the Welcome Username section might be an option: * Welcome, username Credit: $0.00 USD Notifications Settings Log Out
It's not something that the majority of users are going to be interested in, so didn't want to force everyone to look at it if they had no interest. I added a link to it in a few places (bottom left of all pages in the footer) as well as a little 1 line blurb added to the bottom of every email the system sends out (emails for things like PM notifications, thread reply notices, etc.) I think that's probably enough to be honest without being annoying about it. Don't want a giant flashing notice on every page or anything.
Just so I've got this straight.. If I buy the header banner for example, and I am the highest bidder, in what circumstance would my ad be shown? Only on non-adsense pages? Forgive me if this is a dull question and I'm missing something but I'm baffled.. Because in the event that the ads are only displayed on non-adsense pages, well.. Login pages are of no use to any advertisers really (apart from maybe "password security" type websites), and the adult section is of limited use to most people, considering you don't allow porn etc.. Thanks in advance for clearing it up ^_^ Chuckun
