Is there a way to hide your identity to your .in site? I am using fake details now because it is not possible to use a domain privacy at .in domains. Can i lose my domain because of the fake details? thank you
Lets say you are doing some sort of business on your website. A savvy customer will check the whois before spending money. They'll see that privacy is turned on and wonder what the vendor has to hide - after all the website is a proxy for an actual place of business and you aren't showing your real world location. Or they'll see that the address is deliberately vague like 1 High St, London and know that every village in London has a "High St". So you've lost trust and probably the sale. But if the customer wants to they can report your domain to ICANN or the local equivalent who will then try to contact you to get those details put right. If you fail to make the changes (like, because your registrar couldn't contact you using those fake details) then they'll just withdraw your domain from the dns records and it's game over.
Maybe you don't care about privacy in this world. What if you just have a site for informations or forum? Do you want everyone to contact you to your home or stalk you? What if you banned some user or anything that they got irritated? There are different people in the world using the internet and we are not sure anymore for our safety. So it means the one who control .in domains are evil one because they wont give you the rights for privacy. Is it the government of India?
I've had death threats via this forum but related to one of my blogs. I've weighed up all those issues. You can choose a domain extension that allows privacy, you don't have to use .in but know that with privacy some customers will not buy.
